Just three weeks and a few days before their wedding, Corey was overcome by a rare syndrome called Guillain-Barré Syndrome. This came on suddenly and unexpectedly around the 29th of April. It has left him almost completely paralyzed, is now affecting his lungs, and has kept him in the ICU for most of the time he has been in the hospital. Once he breaks free from the ICU, he will face a long road to recovery, full of physical therapy and building the strength to do the simplest everyday things. Corey is a hard working, selfless, and caring, person who puts everyone else's needs before his own. He is an amazing Father, Stepfather, Grandfather, Provider, and an amazing friend. Not being able to support his loved ones is most likely distracting him from focusing on his own recovery. Their wedding, which was set for 05.24.2025, had to be postponed at the last minute. Kasie has taken off work to be by his side to give him the encouragement and support to fight and overcome this rare syndrome.

First I would like to thank everyone for the donations, support, and prayers for Corey and Kasie. It has all helped so much. They still have a long road ahead of them before their lives are anywhere near back to normal. Below is a more detailed update directly from Kasie.

Not exactly how we imagined spending the first week of forever, but love shows up strongest in the hard moments.

I've kept a lot off of social media lately — not out of secrecy, but to protect our peace. But I feel it's time to share a piece of our journey, especially because so many of you have been reaching out with love and prayers.

Corey was placed on a ventilator due to complications from aspiration pneumonia. After a few difficult days, he underwent both a tracheotomy and a PEG tube procedure. On May 29, he was transferred to Good Shepherd in Bethlehem to begin the weaning process, since Geisinger doesn't have a long-term acute care (LTAC) facility.

The most important thing I want to say is this: this is all reversible. Once his body fully recovers from the pneumonia, the trach and feeding tube can be removed — and that's what we're holding onto.

He's currently on his second round of IV antibiotics, and while each day brings small improvements, this journey has its ups and downs. It's a process — but he's fighting, and I'm fighting right beside him.

The outpouring of support — from family, friends, and even complete strangers — has been overwhelming in the best way. You've lifted us in ways I can't put into words. "Thank you" feels too small, but please know how deeply grateful we are.

Please continue to keep Corey in your thoughts and prayers. He's strong, and I believe in his recovery with everything in me. This is just one chapter in a much bigger love story — and we're not done writing it. ❤️
