Corey & Kelly Need Our Help
Donation protected
Before I explain why this Go Fund Me Campaign is happening, let me tell you about this amazing family. To know this family is to love them. They are hard working, thoughtful and generous. I met them many years ago when I was new to living in this area. I was a stranger in a strange land and it felt like they made it their personal mission to make me feel welcome. Our kids became friends quickly and the next thing you know were spending all sorts of time together on the weekends, at the beach, at birthday parties and of course at their famous St. Patrick's Day Parade Party. We became family, celebrating the good times and getting through the tough times together. Now, watching this family suffer through the unthinkable is heart wrenching. Corey's health is in limbo and their finances are in shambles. As much as I wish I could wave a wand and make Corey healthy, that is out of my control. What is in all of our control is to make sure they can pay their expenses. Without a doubt in my mind, Kelly and Corey would give us the shirts off their backs in a moment's notice. Now is our chance to do the same for them.
Three years ago, Corey Soloman and Kelly Chrystal found out that Corey’s kidneys were failing and he would eventually need a kidney transplant. In December of 2017, Kelly and Corey got good news as a friend came forward to donate one of her kidneys. After testing they found they are a direct match. The transplant was planned for early 2018, but Corey experienced complications with his heart that resulted in needing dialysis for his failing kidneys (April). In May, Corey had 5 stents put in and this pushed back the transplant to October of 2018 as he needed to wait for a 6-month clearance from the Cardiologist. In June, Corey got a blister on his toe and within 3 weeks, the toe was infected with gangrene. In early July, Corey had to have the toe amputated, but healing did not take place and he was operated on a second time where the surgeons took more of the toe. With hope, 40+ sessions in the hyperbaric oxygen chamber and applying a wound vac we believed Corey would heal. Corey’s wound did not heal and in September, Corey underwent another amputation to the mid-foot with the hopes of healing and saving the leg. Sadly, the wound did not heal. In October, the surgeons had to amputate his leg to below the knee.
Corey and Kelly live in Belmar and have two children, Elli and CJ. Corey’s job provides all the health benefits for the family. He has been out on disability since July and the disability claim/pay has ended. In addition, the family must start paying Cobra insurance in January. The New Year brings new deductibles, co-insurance, doctor bills and co-pays along payment for those bills outstanding from 2018. A costly ramp had to be installed at their home which is an added monthly expense until he is not wheel chair dependent and it can be removed. The goal for Corey is to heal and get back to work. He must be back to work for 6 months before going out for his kidney transplant on a new disability claim. This will allow the family’s health benefits to be re-instated as well as job security. Corey is currently undergoing dialysis and attends physical therapy while awaiting his prosthetic. He will have to continue PT when he gets his prosthetic to learn to walk again Once he is stable with walking, Corey can return to work. In the meantime, the family is experiencing significant financial hardship with Corey being out of work, paying for Cobra, disability payments ending, doctor bills, the ramp and the prosthetic. This family needs our help with all the added expenses minus Corey’s income. Please consider donating to Corey’s Healing Fund.
