The Corelia Project: Spotlighting Women Composers

Donation protected

Welcome to the Corelia Project! We are an initiative that spotlights women composers.

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

We are creating a centralised database for musicians around the world to discover repertoire by women composers.

WHAT ARE WE TRYING TO ACHIEVE?

Historically, women’s voices have been grossly underrepresented in classical music. Despite a lot of progress, there is still a very long road ahead. Currently, most core repertoire lists do not feature a single work written by a woman, despite the countless exceptional pieces that exist!

Here at the Corelia Project, we believe that visibility and accessibility are the first steps to driving change. Through the promotion of women composers and their works, we aim to encourage shifts in concert programming, and inspire musicians to diversify their own repertoire. With the click of a few buttons, instrumentalists can discover and be inspired to play new pieces, creating a ripple effect over time.

HOW WILL IT WORK?

The Corelia Project website will be designed as an online hub, with:

-       Composer Profiles
-       Listening lists
-    Blogs featuring composers, works and instrumentation-specific recommendations (e.g. string quartets, wind quintets, clarinet quintets, trio, solo music)
-       Full database list of works including solo, concerto and chamber music

FUNDRAISING TARGET:

Our goal is to launch the Corelia Project website in March 2023. To achieve this, we are seeking support to cover the costs associated with the creation and research of the website.

WHAT WILL THE FUNDS COVER?

All the funds received during this campaign will go directly towards launching the Corelia Project. They will cover:

-         Website running costs
-         Website building and design
-         Website management
-         Database software
-         Research costs
