Hello, friends. Many of you might know us from our health care advocacy and Noonan Syndrome awareness efforts. It is no secret that we are a family that struggles. We live on one income, as Anna homeschools Jackson and Henry and manages their health care needs.
Last night, just before midnight, a drunk driver violated Pennsylvania’s “Stay at Home” order and crashed into our parked 2004 Saturn Vue, ramming it into our 2003 Toyota Corolla.
In one careless moment, both of our vehicles have been totaled.
Because of the age of the cars, both will be total losses and we will receive very little payout for them.
Losing our only two vehicles at the same time is rough. Losing both during the COVID-19 crisis has created a significant problem. We had hoped to replace the Saturn this summer with a newer car and had been attempting to budget in preparation for a car payment. Replacing both cars immediately is not something we are prepared to do.
Now that we find ourselves completely without transportation, we are tasked with making urgent purchases - but they must be well researched, reliable purchases. We travel far for our boys' health care. Any car we have must have limited upkeep (because we never have money for repairs), must be durable for frequent traveling, and must meet certain accommodations for Anna and the boys.
To make matters worse, in addition to needing to make well thought out decisions, car dealerships are considered non-essential, which adds potential travel risks and costs to the situation as we attempt to find replacements. This also limits options and price comparison shopping.
But we must replace these vehicles.
We will not be able to afford two car payments, so our hope is to fully purchase one reliable, used vehicle immediately that meets our accommodation needs. We do not have the finances to do that at this time, so we have reluctantly turned to GOFUNDME, because this is an urgent need.
