Help Cora escape Texas hate & move to Colorado!

Hello!

If you don't know who I am, my name is Cora Gilreath and I am a transgender woman, musician and teacher currently living in Houston, TX.

I truly love where I am at in life, but due to the evergrowing anti-trans sentiment down here in Texas, I wake up every day in fear that my state government is going to take away my right to be me. Bills being proposed in the Texas legislature would curb my access to legal hormone replacement therapy, and criminalize being trans and/or gender nonconforming in public by way of 'anti-drag' laws, which are not only harmful to the women in drag but is more so a thinly veiled attack on being transgender. It may seem silly that living in a certain state or location can impact someone so severely, but that is the reality of the current system in the US.

I refuse to live in this environment anymore! I need to do something to feel safe so that I can live my life free from this fear. I've overcome too much to let my happiness and existence as my true self get taken from me now.

That being said, I will be moving to the Denver area this summer. I have already successfully been hired to work with multiple notable music and marching band programs. Despite all of the work being secured, my issue is the immediate cost of moving, as I would have started saving a year or more ago for something like this under normal circumstances.

I am doing everything I can to divert as much of my current income into my savings, but I am going to need help to make this happen. Any funds raised will go directly to breaking my current lease, moving expenses (truck, gas, etc.), deposit, pet fees, move-in fees for a new place, and other related costs.

I estimate a total cost of $8-10k, and I expected to be able to save about $2k myself, so I am setting my goal at $8k. Any money raised that I do not end up needing will go immediately to a local direct-action group to support trans people in Texas.

I am eternally grateful for anything you can do to help get me to Colorado safely so that I can truly begin living my life as the real me without fear of it being taken away.
