Hi, my name is Jackie Shawn, and I’m an independent filmmaker dedicated to telling bold, authentic stories about Black womanhood, creativity, and legacy. My latest film, Copycat, is a stylish and emotional journey that explores the tension between honoring the past and carving out your own identity in the high-stakes world of fashion.

This project is deeply personal to me. As a storyteller with a passion for fashion, thrifting, and styling, I’ve always been inspired by the legacies of Black women in fashion—women who have shaped trends, set standards, and influenced the industry in ways that are often overlooked or erased. Copycat highlights this ongoing struggle to preserve Black fashion history while uplifting the next generation of designers, models, and creatives.

Beyond the film itself, this project will serve as a platform for community engagement. We plan to collaborate with local Black designers, models, and creatives, ensuring that their work is highlighted both on screen and in community events tied to the film. From pop-up fashion showcases to discussions on the impact of Black women in fashion, Copycat is about more than just storytelling—it’s about making a lasting impact.

I’m raising funds to bring this vision to life with high-quality production, striking wardrobe pieces, and a team that reflects the culture and legacy we’re honoring.
