Copeland's Kids

Above are the photos of one of my best friends Christopher Copeland and his two daughters, Arianna (left) and Madison (right).

On the Morning of Saturday February 11th, Chris and a friend went snowmobiling. Sadly, neither man came home from what was suppose to a routine ride across the lake.

Growing up living on and around Conesus Lake most of his life, Chris knew the area well, and always respected the nuances of how to safely enjoy the lake and land for recreation. As many of you have already seen on the news, Chris and his friend have yet to return home.  After the men were reported missing and search teams deployed, snowmobile tracks were discovered leading to a large hole in the ice - two helmets were found nearby.

It has been almost a week since the accident.  Despite the valiant efforts by search and rescue teams, the bodies have yet to be recovered.

Christopher was an exceptional friend. He was the kind of father every little girl wanted. He was the kind of son to his parents, Patricia and Randy Copeland, that people respected.

Chris and I shared a bond that only the closest of friends can have for the past eight years, the kind of friendship that defies time and distance. Spending time with Chris was spending time with someone who knew the value of living your life not only for your own happiness but for the joy it brought to others.

But the joy Chris found in his daughters far surpassed the love I have ever seen a father have for their children.  I cannot think of a conversation or visit we shared where Chris didn’t mention Ariana and Madison or pull out his phone to share pics and videos of them and their exploits - Madison, the fierce, independent thinker and Ariana, the natural, able to master any skill from ATV riding to skiing with ease.

The love, joy and pride Chris has for these two beautiful children was a pleasure to share with him.  I felt as though I knew them both and can only imagine what they must be feeling not having their dad around.  Chris only wanted the best for them.

Chris decided to take out a life insurance policy to ensure his girls would always be taken care of in the event of unforeseen circumstances. Unfortunately, during a career and bank change last year, his insurance company never received the new addresses or bank account information needed to maintain the policy and it lapsed, unbeknownst to Chris.

This GoFundMe page will help establish a 501C3 charity in Chris’ honor called "Copeland's Kids". This not-for-profit charity will not only create a legacy in Chris’ honor for years to come and establish college funds for his daughters, but will also help support the families of children who experience similar tragedies.

Chris was a generous, kind-hearted, fun-loving man who would give you his very last three dollars if you needed it.

I know Chris would do the same for me and anyone that knew Chris would feel the same.

Thank you very much for all of your support and generosity in this time of need.

RIP Christopher Copeland (Peter Pan), you will always be missed, but never forgotten!
