Hi, my name is Steph and myself, and many others have come together to help our friends, The Turners.

On Monday July 27, 2026, 10-year-old Cooper's life changed. After developing a fever from what was thought to be a simple throat infection, Cooper's mum Naomi took him to SCUH to get checked out. Within hours, he was transferred to Queensland Children's Hospital, rapidly deteriorating, where he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML).

Just 24 hours after deciding to head to hospital, Cooper began his first round of chemotherapy. Things moved incredibly fast and he was so unwell that doctors were unable to place a central line for treatment and instead a PICC line was inserted so that chemo could begin immediately.

Prior to Cooper's chemotherapy, Naomi faced this nightmare essentially alone while his dad Chris desperately scrambled to get home from work on the first flight he could. Coopers three younger siblings (aged 8, 5 and 2) were cared for by Naomis mum in what should have been a quick hospital visit.

The months ahead will be long and challenging for the entire family. Coop's treatment is expected to keep him in Brisbane for 4-6 months. During this time, Chris and Naomi will be doing everything they can to support not only Coops but also their three younger children who will be trying to navigate a new normal back home.

Life will become a balancing act meaning months away from work, unexpected expenses, fuel, parking, not to mention regular day to day life!

If you know Cooper or any of the Turners for that matter, you know they are tough, they are strong, they are resilient and they ride the wave of illness and hospitals that they have had to do in the past. But nothing could have prepared them for this news or this journey. They are not the people to accept help, yet they are the ones who always offer it. Together they are already showing remarkable strength and courage and have an army of people who love them deeply. But, not amount of love can remove the financial burden this journey will bring.

We would love to help them and keep them from Chris needing to return to travelling away for work during this time. The kids need both parents and they need each other. Without this burden, they can focus on being there for their 4 beautiful kids in what will be the fight of their lives. Let's get Cooper back to his favourite things here at home - footy, soccer, the beach, his mates who miss him dearly and his siblings who have only known life with him in it!
