Cooper's Backstory
Cooper is an 8 month old yellow lab mix who was rescued in mid November. He is an extremely sweet and gentle boy who loves to run, play and enjoy life! About 3 months ago we started to realize that he seemed to be slowing down. He was hesitant to run full speed, jump on furniture and play hard. We took him to our vet who proceeded to take a series of x-rays and diagnose him with severe hip dysplasia.
Hip Dysplasia and Its Costs
Hip dysplasia is a genetic disease which creates very shallow sockets in the pelvis and causes severe deformities within the hip joint. These deformities cause looseness in the joint and will lead to severe arthritis as the dog grows older.
Luckily because of Cooper's age and the fact that his condition was caught early there are surgical options to be considered. The main corrective surgery for this type of condition is called a Triple Pelvic Osteotomy. The goal of this procedure is to correct the alignment of the hip joint and allow his femur to seat further into the hip socket. Each hip has been estimated to cost between $5000-6000 to correct with an operating window from 8- 10 months of age. If delayed past 10 months the hip joint will likely be degraded to the point where the only surgical option would be a full hip replacement which are estimated at $6000-8000 per hip.

Our Plea For Help
Cooper is such a good dog and it hurts my heart to see such a young, loving boy struggle with simple things such as going up stairs or even getting out of bed some mornings. If enough money can be raised to even have one hip corrected that would mean the world to Cooper and our family! Any and all donations no matter how small are extremely appreciated and will go towards giving Cooper a healthy full life!
