Contribution to Arthur Labinjo-Hughes Funeral

Hi all,

 

My name is Jon Wilkinson, and although I have no direct connection to little Arthur, I just felt a need to do something that would demonstrate how special this little boy was and how desperately saddened we are as a nation to learn of his harrowing ordeal. One of the worst cases of neglect in recent history. I am directly in contact with someone connected with the family, West Midlands Police and Birmingham City FC who are all working towards ensuring the money raised falls into the right hands. 

I'm Birmingham born, lived in Solihull just a road from where Arthur lived and now reside in Warwick. As I said above, although there is no direct relationship to the family, I am in direct communication with someone who is and being actively advise by WMP on how to handle donations. 

My plan is to use the funds to contribute in any way towards the funeral for Arthur to ensure he has the send off he truly deserves. I intend to send the funds directly onto the relevant party who will use the money to pay for said service above. 

As there is another fund raiser that was in place long before mine, we have teamed together and agreed to combine our efforts to A, ensure all money raised is put towards Arthurs funeral and B, any left over cash is used to further initiatives to further safeguard children and offer special experiences for those that are vulnerable and deprived across the region.  

 

I'm a parent to two girls and as like many parents, feel a sense of guilt even if I tell my daughter off for something that will ultimately keep her safe as she grows up and tackles the real world for herself.

 

Young Arthur didn't have that, and he never got the chance to free himself from his situation! Children don't choose what they're born into, it is our duty as adults and members of this community to ensure the safety of children to ensure they have the best opportunity at life!

 

My intention is to raise money towards the funeral once little Arthurs is able to be laid to rest. With a target of 5k to start, I think is achievable and will ensure he has the send off he deserves!

 

My friend, Wayne Hambling has also kindly and successfully raised money to have Arthurs name cemented into the stands of St Andrews

 

Deep down, I'd like to follow up this with actions that will further safeguard children, however as I only have experience running a children's holiday camp, I am by no means versed on how to go about pushing further rules, regulations and authority to ensure children are kept safe.
