First and foremost, to anyone who has taken the time to read this, from the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your consideration. My name is Zarahi Menjivar, and I, along with Marilyn Sanchez and few other long time friends and coworkers who have come to know, cherish, and love Nery, have created this page in hopes of contributing to Nery's journey and recovery. While we could fill a book with testimonials on how kind, thoughtful, and resilient Nery is, I believe no one is capable of telling his story better than himself:
"Well, I'm a 56-year-old man, born in Guatemala in 1968. I was 6 years old when we moved to the States. My parents worked hard to support our family. My mother, who is still with us, worked three jobs as a housekeeper here in the valley but would commute from East Los Angeles by bus. My parents are the reason why I'm the man I am today. They taught me to always show respect, especially to the elders, to always be compassionate, and to be honest and caring to everyone. Now, my mother and my youngest brother are the only family I have. I've been with my wife Rose since 1997, married since 2003, and we have two gorgeous daughters in Heaven. Unfortunately, God needed angels to help him, so he took both of them. Rose is also a cancer survivor, but without ever needing any type of chemo or radiation. I was diagnosed with digestive stomach cancer in 2023, had 90% of my stomach removed, but because I still had positive cancer cells in 5 out of 35 lymph nodes, I needed heavy chemotherapy for 8 months, followed by more chemo along with radiation. Two months ago, my cancer went into remission, but unfortunately, all those heavy treatments severely damaged my liver. I'm now stage 4 cirrhosis with a transplant as my only survival way, but I don't qualify for a transplant because all transplant recipients have to be 5 years cancer-free, and I just recently went into remission. Now, the only thing doctors can do is try to make me as comfortable as possible and hope for a miracle and try trial meds to see if I will survive this. I'm so thankful to have you guys in my life and for all the support and love I have been given. I have been with the company for over 10 years, starting in upper management, and then they offered me a full-time supervisor position in the lower lot. I do consider myself blessed to have each and every one of you. My hobbies really are working with you guys and trying to help every officer succeed and become someone who will be proud of who they are. Besides working hard and taking care of my wife, my only other hobby is, yes, I know I'm an old man, but playing and watching my Pittsburgh Steelers win football games. Thank you, and let me know if there's anything else I can help with. Again, love you guys and God bless all of you."
Once again, thank you for your consideration, and we hope this money is able to make a positive difference.
Thank you.
