Miracles do happen! Even when they're missing most of their butt and covered in beautiful feathers.
Miracle was first found limping around a yard in St. Cloud. After a three-hour round trip to pick her up, one of our volunteers started critical care immediately. We spent hours on the phone with experienced rescuers from across the country, doing everything we could to keep her stable until her vet appointment on Friday, June 12. With one bad leg, we all assumed something had to be broken. But somehow, her legs and hips were perfect. Not a single break.
What we found instead was much worse. Miracle had been sitting and waiting for help for so long that a large amount of dried fecal matter had built up around her injuries. After several baths and a lot of careful cleaning, the real problem finally revealed itself: a section of tissue roughly 1" x 1" is completely missing from her back end around her vent.
Despite all of this, she's currently hanging out on soft bedding, preening and staring everyone down like they personally took the last French fry. She's being syringe-fed fluids and nutrients, getting plenty of rest, and receiving the care she needs.
We went into this hoping her wounds might heal on their own. After two weeks, she's made EXCELLENT progress—that 1" x 1" wound is healing very well! Unfortunately, one wound didn't heal as well. The wound on her left hock is now showing early signs of sepsis. The good news is that an amputation will fix that, and she'll have a long, happy life once it's removed. Pigeons are resilient, and this one is especially so.
This is where we need you. Miracle's life depends on us reaching this goal. We've raised $812 so far, both online and offline, and we've re-set our goal at $2,223—the gap that needs to close by Thursday so Miracle can receive her life-saving amputation. Sepsis doesn't wait, and her surgery, medications, and follow-up care are what stand between her and a full recovery. Every dollar goes directly to keeping this little loaf alive.
NSPN is a network of people in Minnesota who love pigeons—that's it! Just a few people helping little souls. We're out here making connections, providing care, making the drives, and learning so much.
We're doing everything we can to get her the treatment and answers she needs, but rescue care adds up quickly. With your help, Miracle has a chance at an incredible recovery.
For those who have already given—THANK YOU! We ask that you share this fundraiser far and wide. For those just passing by, checking out one of the cutest little souls around: please consider giving. As a thank-you, we'll share with you a button featuring Miracle herself.
If you can't donate, sharing her story helps just as much. Tell your friends, tell your family, use up a Q-tip in her honor—whatever helps spread the word.
This little loaf has made one thing very clear: she wants to be here. Let's help her out.
