The first week of January 2021, Louie was surrendered to the County animal shelter without explanation. Lucky for Louie, the shelter vet was out during his stay and his adoption! Now that he is in his new home (and recovering from surgery), he needs help paying for his unforeseen veterinary bills.
His story:
After bringing Louie home in January, it was obvious he strains going to the bathroom (and spends the majority of our walks doing just that). Upon his first vet visit (most likely in his 6 years of life), we learned he had what is called a perineal hernia and early Stage III kidney disease. Therefore he was in need of major surgery and a full dental procedure as soon as possible. Sadly, both the perineal hernia and kidney disease could have been avoided with preventative care (neutering can greatly reduce the risk of perineal hernias and regular dental cleanings can prevent dental disease which can damage the kidneys and heart).
Due to limited resources and the specialty nature of this surgery, the shelter Louie was adopted from could only offer a grave alternative or to refund his adoption fee to go towards his operation.
Louie successfully underwent surgery on February 10, 2021 to repair both the left and right perineal hernia and is recovering to gear up for his upcoming dental procedure to remove infected teeth that most likely damaged his kidneys.
All funds raised in this GoFundMe help pay for Louie's veterinary bills for his hernia surgery and dental procedure (scheduled 02/16/21).
We all know adopting a pet is a big undertaking, however these large initial expenses were not anticipated. All support to help with the many initial costs in rescuing Louie to help him live out his years ahead is greatly appreciated!
