Honoring Jane F. Hunter: A Life of Poetry, Kindness, and Resilience
On Thursday, March 6, 2025 Jane F. Hunter—a talented poet, kind soul, and beloved daughter and sister—passed away tragically at the age of 41. Jane was found on the rooftop of the Bronx apartment building where she lived with her mother. This rooftop was a place of solace for Jane, where she often stargazed and meditated. It was a space where she felt safe from the challenges of life.
To our great relief, the medical examiner has confirmed that Jane’s untimely passing occurred without foul play. She was alone when she died, and we hope she found peace in her final moments.
The day Jane passed away, another woman in the area was tragically murdered. This coincidence led to a wave of sensationalized media coverage that wrongly speculated about Jane’s death. Reporters flocked to her home, causing immense pain to her grieving family. Instead of being allowed to mourn privately, Jane’s mother and brother were thrust into damage control to protect her memory and legacy from harmful rumors.
We are deeply grateful to News 12 for their sensitive and compassionate coverage of Jane’s story. They worked closely with our family to ensure that their reporting was accurate, respectful, and mindful of who Jane was as a person. For those who wish to learn more about the circumstances surrounding her passing, you can read their coverage here: News 12 Story on Jane's Passing.
Our Goals
We are raising $18,000 to honor Jane’s memory in a way that reflects her spirit and creativity:
Funeral Expenses: The average cost of a funeral in NYC is $10,000.
Transitioning Jane’s poetry from online platforms into print, preserving her artistic legacy.
To help fulfill the family’s dream of scattering Jane’s ashes in Ireland—a place they always dreamed of visiting together.
Funeral Arrangements
Jane’s care has been entrusted to FG Guido Funeral Home, located at 440 Clinton Street, Brooklyn, NY 11231. Her wake will take place on Wednesday, March 12th from 3 pm to 8 pm. We invite all who wish to pay their respects to join us during this time.
Every contribution helps us celebrate Jane’s life and give her the farewell she deserves. Your support will allow us not only to cover funeral expenses but also to ensure that her poetry reaches others and that her ashes find rest in a place of beauty and meaning.
Jane’s poetry captured the depth of her experiences and emotions. By helping us publish her work, you’ll ensure that her voice continues to inspire others even after her passing.
Thank you for your generosity during this difficult time. Whether through prayers, sharing this campaign, or financial contributions, your kindness means the world to us as we honor Jane’s life and legacy. Together, we can ensure that her memory shines as brightly as the stars she loved to gaze upon.
