My family and I would like to introduce you to our amazing sister Cathy and her husband Dave. They could really use your help and support. They're in their mid-sixties and have been married for 47 years. They recently retired and were looking forward to enjoying each other's company in their golden years. I really have never seen a couple as well suited as these two are for one another.
Unfortunately, on October 9, 2023 Cathy and Dave's lives took an unexpected turn after Cathy's doctor's appointment revealed significant health issues. Cathy was immediately admitted into the hospital.
Since then, Cathy has been in 6 hospitals and two skilled nursing facilities (SNF.) At the end of October, she was put on temporary kidney dialysis. On November 7th Cathy had heart surgery to replace and repair heart valves, and on November 14th she had a pacemaker installed. She was then transferred to a SNF in Warminster, PA. on November 15th. On the day before Thanksgiving she was rushed back to the hospital for a blood clot, then sent back to SNF. The day after Thanksgiving she was rushed back to the hospital with fluid in her lungs and learned her kidneys would not heal and she would be on dialysis permanently. She was then transferred to The Pines Rehabilitation Facility in Philadelphia, PA (I would highly recommend.)
None of this phased Cathy, she kept positive and worked diligently with her physical therapist to get back on her feet so she would be able to climb the stairs and go home. She was well liked by the staff and she really enjoyed BINGO days. She was very lucky, during our visits, she would show all the prize jewelry she had won. She even had her picture in The Pines monthly newsletter. She worked hard and was recovering very well!
Cathy's husband Dave who has been there every day for his wife, had 2 chair lifts installed that would allow his wife to get into the house and up to the main floor, and enable her to go to dialysis three times a week. He also converted their dining room into a bedroom for her, so she could come home.
Cathy was released from the the Pines SNF on February 24, 2024. Two days later she was rushed back to the hospital and further tests revealed liver cancer. After several weeks in the hospital and another stay at The Pines SNF Cathy was again released home on Easter morning (March 31, 2024.) Cathy was home for nine days, but unfortunately, once again had to be admitted into the hospital for an infection. If all goes well she will go home on Wednesday April 17th. Cathy is determined to work with her physical therapist to get back in shape to begin her treatment to fight cancer,
Cathy and Dave have exhausted their savings in the last six months. Medical insurance does not pay all medical cost, nor does it pay for stair lifts. They have not been able to find funding to complete the stair lift from the main floor to the top floor, that would allow Cathy to get a shower and sleep in her own bed.
We are reaching out to the community for support to help make Cathy's home more accessible and pay medical cost not paid by insurance. Cathy's journey has been tough, but her spirit remains strong. She has chosen Fox Chase for her cancer treatment and will begin as soon as her doctors confirm she is ready for the battle of her life.
Please help me to help improve my sister's quality of life and help pay medical cost not paid by insurance.
Our goal is $15,000.00.
All contributions will will go towards essential equipment and Medical cost not paid by insurance.
Also we would like to request prayers, we believe in God and the power of prayers!
We sincerely thank you for any help you are able to provide!
God bless you.
