My Story: A Journey Through Betrayal and Devastation

Years ago, my life changed in an instant. I was involved in a severe dirt bike accident in Owen

Sound, Ontario, that left me with devastating injuries: a broken neck, back, shoulder, ribs, and

a significant knee injury. The immediate aftermath was a blur of pain and uncertainty.

The true, long-term nightmare began not just with my injuries, but with a shocking betrayal

concerning my insurance. As a contractor, working on roofs and at heights, I knew how critical

disability insurance was. I explicitly sought it out, and the insurance agent at the time misled

me into believing he had signed up for the correct disability insurance that would protect me if

I couldn't work due to an injury.

Instead, without my knowledge or consent, the agent signed me up for critical illness

insurance. This type of policy offers no income replacement for an accident like mine and was

of absolutely no use to me whatsoever. When I desperately needed support, I discovered the

tragic truth: the insurance company claimed I was never properly signed up for disability

coverage, and then, after my accident, they completely canceled me.

This devastating oversight and deceit meant that every hospital stay, every doctor's visit, and

every essential cost related to my recovery came directly out of my own pocket. The financial

strain became unbearable. I fought tooth and nail to manage, but the immense bills, coupled

with this crushing injustice, have, quite frankly, driven me to bankruptcy. I have lost everything

I had – my savings, my stability, and my peace of mind.

The Crushing Reality Today

Years have passed since the accident, but the physical and financial fallout is catching up to

me in an agonizing way. Physically, these injuries are now severely limiting my ability to work.

The chronic pain, the reduced mobility, and the sheer toll on my body mean I simply cannot

perform anywhere close to the way I used to. The career I once had, the way I used to earn a

living – it's all been ripped away, and I'm left struggling to even cover the basics.

I'm facing an impossible situation: my body is failing me, and my finances are completely

depleted, made even more tragic by the circumstances surrounding my insurance. I've fought

as hard as I can, for as long as I can, but I am at a breaking point.
