Ash's Contortion Intensive Campaign
Donation protected
Hello!
My name is Ash. I also go by Selia Something, my performer alias. Since June 2015 I've been pursuing my long time dream of circus and performing arts. That means creating and performing dance, burlesque, aerial, and most importantly contortion. Contortion is my passion. When I practice contortion I feel alive, I feel whole, I feel capable of accomplishing anything. Since June I have been attending workshops, taking online training courses, and training on my own. With your help, I can take my training to the next level!
What this campaign pays for:
The San Francisco Circus Center Contortion Intensive . This intensive is made for aspiring contortionists like me: 3-5 hours a day, 5 days a week for 4 weeks. Tuition is $2000, which is the majority of my campaign. Being that I live 250 miles south of SF, the remaining $500 will go toward commuting, as well as any additional lodging (being on the shoestring budget of generous donations, I'm hoping to mainly crash with friends and family).
Stretch goals: Circus Center offers many amazing classes that would propel my circus and performance skills even further. Check out their classes here . $115 past the initial goal would pay for the General Classes 5 Pack and allow me to take 1 extra class for every week I'm in the Contortion Intensive. $220 would pay for the General Classes 10 Pack, allowing me to take 2+ bonus classes per week during the intensive.
The Deadlines: The written and video applications have been submitted! The tuition deadlines: a $500 deposit April 1st and any remaining balance May 15th.
Why donate:
This intensive is a dream come true for a contortion enthusiast like myself. Unlike anything offered in the US, this four-week intensive focuses not only on increasing flexibility and knowledge in Mongolian contortion, but developing well-rounded performers. The first three weeks will focus on perfecting technique, developing personalized tools, and learning new skills to add to students' repertoires, in addition to weekly workshops. These specialty workshops will deal with nutrition, character development, resumes, and helping students navigate the professional circus world upon completion. The final week will focus primarily on developing an act for each individual student which will then be presented in a final showcase on the last day of the intensive. Check out my video application to see how excited I am, and where I'm looking to grow!
What this means to me:
As an aspiring performer and contortion enthusiast, this intensive will not only teach me valuable contortion and performance skills, but it will also give me invaluable tools to navigate the business of circus and performing arts as a professional. Additionally, I'll be able to connect and train with other circus professionals from all over the country, which is in itself an amazing opportunity! Honestly, being able to attend this intensive would mean the world to me. When I first heard about this event, my jaw hit the floor. I had no idea this was a thing, let alone a thing I might be able to participate in. But I'm a performer in a small town, which means my income is laughable, especially after deciding to take this full time. HOW could I make this work? By asking for support. With your help. Thank you would not begin to cover my gratitude, but it's a good start.
Thank you.
