Three and a half years ago, I created a GoFundMe after being diagnosed with Stage III melanoma. Thanks to the incredible kindness of family, friends, and even people I had never met, I was able to get through surgery and the months I was unable to work. I will always be grateful for that support.

Although my first surgery is behind me, my cancer journey hasn’t ended. Since then, I’ve continued with treatments, additional surgeries, regular scans, and follow-up care. Like so many cancer survivors, I’ve learned that even after treatment, the journey doesn’t simply stop.

Over the past few years, I’ve done everything I can to stay on my feet. I’ve worked multiple jobs, sold personal belongings, and done my best to keep moving forward despite rising costs and ongoing medical expenses. Recently, my car suffered a major mechanical failure, and the repair estimate is around $1,700. At the same time, my health insurance premium of approximately $1,500 is due. I am also due for another scan in the next few months which are $2,000 out of pocket.

If I didn’t have cancer to deal with, paying these bills would not be a problem for me. But having 3 years of constant labs, scans, immunotherapy, etc. has been financially devastating. Lately I have been rescheduling or skipping appointments and I know that’s not a good thing to do with this cancer.

Without my car, I can’t reliably get to work. Without my health insurance, I risk losing the coverage I depend on to continue my cancer follow-up care and protect my health.

Asking for help is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. I never imagined I’d find myself in this position again, and I struggled with whether to create another fundraiser. But I’ve reached a point where I’ve exhausted the options available to me, and I simply can’t bridge this gap on my own.
