Coach Harry Johnson dedicated his life to making a difference in the lives of students, athletes, alumni, and families throughout the Tates Creek community. His leadership, compassion, generosity, and unwavering commitment to others left an impact that will never be forgotten. But behind every great man is often someone who quietly stands beside him, supports him, and shares in the life he gives to others. For Harry, that person was his beloved wife, Peggy. Harry and Peggy shared a life built on love, family, friendship, and service to others. Peggy was there beside Harry throughout the many years he devoted himself to students, athletes, alumni, and the Tates Creek community. While Harry may have been the coach, mentor, and familiar face to so many, Peggy was an important part of the life and support system that allowed him to give so much of himself to others. It is with that in mind that the Tates Creek Memorial Group has established the Harry Johnson Legacy and Outreach Fund—not only to honor Harry’s memory, but to honor the values that he and Peggy shared and demonstrated throughout their lives. This fund is intended to be more than a one-time memorial. It is our hope that it will become a lasting way of helping Tates Creek alumni families who suddenly find themselves facing the heartbreaking loss of a loved one and the unexpected financial burden that comes with funeral expenses and final arrangements. To date, just over $4,000 has been generously donated. That is an encouraging beginning, but building a fund that can continue helping families for years to come will take the support of our entire Tates Creek family. For many years, these needs have been met quietly through private donations from members of our Tates Creek family. In many cases, administrators of the Tates Creek Memorial Group have also personally stepped in and contributed when a family needed help. This fund gives us an opportunity to continue that tradition in a lasting way. The Tates Creek Memorial Group will oversee the administration of the fund and distribute assistance based on demonstrated need. 100% of donations received will be placed in an interest-bearing account and used exclusively to provide this assistance. Every donation—large or small—is an expression of compassion. It is a way of telling a family who has just experienced an unimaginable loss, you don’t have to face this alone. And perhaps most importantly, every donation helps carry forward something that Harry believed in throughout his life: taking care of our own. Whether you make a one-time contribution or choose to become a recurring monthly donor, you are helping create something that can continue long after the initial memorial has passed.
