This sweet boy is Cash. He was temporarily named "Blakely" by the vet clinic but is now officially named "Cash" by those caring for him. On Saturday 02/25/2023 the Blakely Police Department was contacted concerning a social media post of alleged mistreatment of a dog. BPD officers responded to the residence to investigate. Officers located a dog in distress, chained, and without an apparent food source. The dog was removed from the residence and taken to a veterinarian where it was diagnosed as being severely dehydrated, malnourished, and infested with internal and external parasites which caused anemia. The owner was arrested. A German Sheppard his age should have weighed 75 to 80 pounds and Cash weighed 36 pounds when he was found. Cash is trying very hard to get better. He is beginning to eat but requires special food. His muscles have deteriorated and volunteers are working with him each day to help him learn to stand and walk again. Cash has quite a vet bill already and more than likely will need additional treatments as he gets better. If you would like to donate towards his care, the Friends of Blakely Animal Shelter would appreciate any love you send his way.
