Continued support for Garrett's brain cancer battle
Hi, my name is Alyssa Sereda, Garrett Osinchuk's sister. I am writing this to give an update on my brother who is battling with incredible strength, an oligodendroglioma- a rare cancerous brain tumor in his right frontal lobe.
Garrett is almost 8 weeks post op from his third surgical resection. After some initial post surgery scares, he is finally healing well at home surrounded by his loving family and amazing support system in his community and all over.
Since his surgery we have been looking at options for his path forward. We were crossing our fingers the newly approved in Canada drug voranigo would be a promising option for him, however insurance has denied to pay for this extremely expensive target therapy as the pathology from this surgery has shown us his previously grade 2 tumor has evolved into an aggressive grade 3 tumor and this drug has only been trialed on grade 2s. Since this devestaing denial, his oncologist and radiologist have fought hard for him to undergo proton radiation therapy-a highly targeted treatment that offers the best chance to stop the tumor from progressing with minimal side effects. This treatment option is not available in Canada yet so they will have to travel to Jacksonville, Florida to receive it. Fortunately, we got amazing news that his flight and treatment costs will be covered. However the cost of travel for Jess and the kids, accomodations, rental vehicle, and living expenses for the family in Florida for the next 2 months with the US dollar will add up causing financial stress (on top of already reduced income) that we are hoping to help alleviate.
We are reaching out with humble hearts to ask for your support. Donations will go directly towards helping the family cover these costs allowing him to fully focus on this battle with courage and hope without the burden of financial stress.
Garrett and the family are busy packing and getting their affairs in order to leave this wed april 30, only a few days after being blessed with this exciting opportunity.
Every donation, share and prayer means more to us than words can express. Thank you for standing with Garrett and our family in this fight; together we can help give him the best chance at extending his life.
With love,
Garrett and Jessica's family ♥️
