Continued Medical Expenses for Jason Wright
Donation protected
I am Tim Wright, Jason Wright's father. I’m starting this new gofundme page on behalf of Jason Wright and Jennie Lee Wright for continued help with medical expenses after Jason’s horrible motorcycle accident that happened February 17 of this year.
For those who don’t know, he broke the first six vertebrae in his neck and is a quadriplegic now. The only movement he is able to get consistently is to shrug his shoulders, but he is getting back some movement in his biceps and we are hopeful for more arm muscle use and movement. He is not able to move his neck at all because everything has been plated, screwed, and fused, from the base of his skull to T2 vertebrae (between the shoulder blades). He is currently in a spinal rehab facility in Florida and is progressing slowly, but he is progressing and has a great attitude.
As with most of us, they were already struggling with bills and payments, and now after losing Jason‘s income months ago in February they are struggling even more as bills stack up and hospital bills that have not been paid by insurance companies keep coming in.
We do know right now that his rehab is in a continuous battle with insurance, to get his stay covered. The insurance company doesn’t want him to stay at the rehab facility any longer and wants him to go home because they think he is not progressing fast enough. Which seems crazy to me.. There is no way Jason or Jennie are ready for that right now. There is a weekly appeal by the doctors and therapists at the rehab facility, so hopefully they continue to win those battles.
Jason’s discharge and homecoming could come at any time. So they are already looking at equipment and things that will be needed for when Jason goes home eventually, such as the Hoyer lift, his wheelchair, a device to keep him turned regularly, a hospital bed, shower chair and many other things they are not even aware of yet. Some of these items will be covered by insurance, some will not, and some will be partially covered, but they do not know the full extent of that yet. Eventually they will also need a wheelchair accessible vehicle, and we know insurance will not cover that.
Things we know will not be covered or at least not fully covered by insurance:
Seat elevation motor for wheelchair - $1,500
Specialized Shower Chair - $5,000
Specialized Turning Mattress Top - $3,000
Adjustable power base for bed - $2000
These are just items we are looking at now as necessities or greater quality of life items, and it does not include any potential small incidentals as well.
I know a lot of you graciously helped with his previous go fund me and they are very thankful. If there is anyway you are able to help it would be greatly appreciated. Also, please share this page if you can. All donations will go directly to Jason and Jennie. Thank you.
