On June 28th, the Milwaukee Police Department was chasing a car that ended by the car crashing into GLOW Headquarters on 23rd and Hopkins. The crash was fatal, and two young women died on the scene. It is disheartening to think about the two individuals that lost their lives because GLOW is all about preventing things like this from occurring by offering programming and services to meet our youth and young adults where they are.
As a result of the crash, GLOW's headquarters was destroyed, causing services to be immediately stopped. Although the building was insured, the support and structure of the building were damaged to the point that the damages cost more than what the building was worth. Many may think "it was just a building," but for me, it is my Calling. Thousands of disadvantaged youth will no longer have access to a safe place; our Mental Health Outpatient Center will not be able to launch (during a mental health crisis); our summer programming has to pause; youth are without jobs; individuals will not have the opportunity to move into their newly remodeled transitional units this Fall, and more.
We understand that it takes a village. We ask for the community's help to save the Mission of GLOW 414, inc. Please consider donating any amount to put toward the continuation of programming and to reestablish space. The community needs GLOW more than ever, and I know this is my Calling, and WE CANNOT Stop.
