Um "cheirinho" do que é o projeto Escola Privada Humberto Braima Sambú:
A Escola Privada Humberto Braima Sambú, situada no Bairro Militar na cidade de Bissau, foi fundada em 1993 no sentido de colmatar a inexistência de acesso à educação da comunidade local. Apesar de existirem escolas públicas financiadas pelo Estado em Bissau, ficavam a uma distância considerável, o que não permitia um fácil acesso a todos as crianças da região, situação que continua até aos dias de hoje. É nesse sentido que surgiu este projeto, para servir uma comunidade, contrariando a falta de fundos governamentais.
No seu início, a Escola funcionava numa casa alugada e, ao longo dos anos, com a ajuda da comunidade, o sonho do Professor Humberto foi ganhando forma.
Dentro do terreno conseguido, a escola encontra-se, até hoje, em constante construção e acabamento pela falta de recursos financeiros.
A comunidade onde se encontra a escola conta com cerca de 12 000 moradores, a maioria ainda em casas muito precárias. Em termos de educação formal, a escola acolhe mais de 500 alunos, raparigas e rapazes, entre a pré-primária e o ensino secundário, número que vai aumentando à medida que há mais sensibilização sobre a importância da educação.
A escola tem de assegurar os salários dos seus vários professores e para que tal aconteça, os alunos comprometem-se a pagar uma pequena taxa por mês ( por volta dos 7 euros). A escola compreende a difícil situação de muitas famílias e junto delas tenta encontrar uma solução. É frequente a falta de pagamento por parte de alguns alunos, situação que a direção tolera para que estes não abandonem a escola.
Com a situação de pandemia mundial e o consequente fecho temporário das escolas (e a impossibilidade de garantir um ensino online) as dificuldades na comunidade em geral acumularam-se, o que acabou por se refletir nos pagamentos escolares.
Neste momento, todos os fundos e poupanças que a escola tem são direcionados para o pagamento dos salários dos professores. Por si só, a escola não consegue melhorar as suas instalações, mesmo tendo consciência da sua importância.
No seguimento da atual situação pandémica mundial, as dificuldades que já existiam foram intensificadas, o que despertou a consciência acerca de outra problemática: a falta de refeições nutritivas e completas, que leva a que as crianças se alimentem de comidas rápidas e baratas na rua.
O objetivo principal desta angariação de fundos é conseguir recursos que permitam terminar a obra da cantina escolar que ficou suspensa devido à COVID-19.
Neste momento, está em falta todo o equipamento de cozinha, da sala de refeições e a finalização do espaço. Após a conclusão da presente angariação e da reforma da cantina, pretende-se entregar a cada aluno um pão e um copo de leite, e ir melhorando a qualidade das refeições ao longo do tempo. Este é apenas o primeiro passo para o alcance de uma solução simples, rápida e eficaz que beneficie toda a comunidade escolar.

-2 camiões de areia x 35000 CFA = 70 000 CFA (106, 52 €)
-4 trabalhadores = 150000 CFA (228,25€)
-150 colheres x 100 CFA = 15 000 CFA (22,83€)
-200 pratos x 500 CFA = 100 000 CFA (152,17€)
-Frigorífico = 240 000 CFA (365,20€)
-Mesas e cadeiras= 250 000 CFA (340€)

(Embora a escola se situe na Guiné-Bissau, a angariação será feita em Euros, associada a uma conta bancária europeia de uma voluntária do projeto. Desta forma, prevendo que a grande maioria das doações sejam feitas na moeda europeia, pretendemos diminuir ao máximo as taxas de conversão a cada transferência).

The Humberto Braima Sambú Private School, located in Bairro Militar in the city of Bissau, was founded in 1993 in order to overcome the lack of access to education by the local community. Although there were public schools financed by the State in Bissau, they were at a considerable distance, which did not allow an easy access to all children in the region, a situation that continues to this day. With this in mind, this project arose, with the goal of serving a community, countering the lack of government funds.
At the beginning, the School operated in a rented house and, over the years, with the help of the community, Professor Humberto's dream gained its form.
Within the land acquired, the school is, until today, in constant construction due to the lack of financial resources.
The community where the school is located has about 12,000 residents, most of whom are still in very precarious homes. In terms of formal education, the school welcomes more than 500 students, girls and boys, from primary to secondary education levels, a number that increases as there is more general awareness about the importance of education.
The school has to ensure the salaries of its various teachers and for that to happen, it is required for the students to pay a small fee per month (around 7 euros). The school understands the plight of many families and tries to find a solution with them. Some students often don not pay the fee, a situation that the board tolerates so that they stay in school.
With the global pandemic situation and the consequent temporary closure of schools (and the impossibility of guaranteeing online education), the challenges felt within the community accumulated, which ended up being reflected in the school payments.
At this time, all funds and savings that the school has are directed towards the payment of teachers' salaries. By itself, the school is unable to improve its facilities, even though they is aware of its importance.
Following the current global pandemic situation, the difficulties that already existed were intensified, which raised awareness on another problem: the lack of nutritious and complete meals, which leads the children to eat fast and cheap food on the street.
The main goal of this fundraising is to obtain resources to finish the work of the school canteen that was suspended due to COVID-19.
At the moment, all the kitchen and canteen equipment and the finalization of the space are missing. After the conclusion of the present fundraising and the renovation of the canteen, it is intended to give each student a bread and a glass of milk, considering that the long-term goal is to improve the quality of the meals over time. This is just the first step towards achieving a simple, fast and effective solution that benefits the entire school community.
