Hello my name is Steve Elwood , I am the Chairman of The Boston Woods Trust.
On 23rd June 2024 I am cycling 100 miles (in one day!) the route will take me through much of Lincolnshire.
The route.......
Please help me "Make the dream a reality" by sponsoring me.
I'm raising money to build a barn in the Boston Woods Trust's latest development , Dion's Wood Nature Reserve. The barn will have nest sites of several different species - such as the iconic Barn owl and the welcome summer visitors, swallows and swifts.
As old farm buildings disappear there are increasing shortages of nest sites. This barn aims to help to alleviate this situation.
Every donation will help towards increasing biodiversity in our new reserve and surroundings.
As more species are attracted to the reserve you will be both helping nature, and the enjoyment of our visitors.
Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
Dion's Wood Nature Reserve was donated to the trust by a local farmer, it covers 32 acres and in November 2022 it was planted with 17,000 mixed broadleaf trees and shrubs. In time it will have full public access with a car park and hard paths.
There is easy access from residential areas and The Pilgrim Hospital and The Butterfly Hospice.
The Boston Woods Trust is an independent local charity entirely funded by grants and donations. It was founded in 2001 to provide the people of Boston with a much needed amenity for recreational purposes including walking, bird watching and cycling. It is planned that there will eventually be accessible walks along 7 miles of native deciduous woodland, wildflower meadows and ponds in a roughly crescent shaped corridor to the West of the town.
The Trust currently manages just under 150 acres of woodland and wildflower meadows all managed by volunteers.
