Constellations is a new quarterly online magazine by At the Edges, showcasing emerging fiction and non-fiction writers and poets drawn to the luminous.*

WHO ARE WE?

We are a constellation of writers and readers drawn to the luminous, telling our stories from the edges. Our passion is to support and publish emerging writers from diverse backgrounds. If someone writes well and has a story to tell, we believe they should be heard! But we’re more than publishers: we offer a nurturing community for writers through coaching, workshops and reading events.

HOW DID THIS MAGAZINE COME ABOUT?

The idea of a magazine came about as we connected with more and more emerging writers looking for a space to experiment with their craft. We’ve called the magazine “Constellations” because we see it as a canvas where diverse and creative voices can glimmer and shine.

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

Our first issue will be published in late October with the theme “Luminous." Contributors have been asked to reflect on three questions: What draws us towards the luminous? Do we ever want to escape mystery? What is it about the sublime that instils terror? Where is there awe and wonder today in the mundane? The contributions will appear on a dedicated website and will also be sent out as a newsletter.

We’ve received submissions so far in all five categories: flash fiction, fiction, narrative non-fiction, short form poetry and photos. Two of our contributors are from culturally diverse backgrounds - Filipina and Indian. Some writers come from our own writing community through our weekly Writing Studio and other connections. Others are contributors from our growing Substack community and the general public.

HOW ARE WE DOING IT?

We are committed to a collaborative approach to publishing. We work closely with writers, editing their work as needed while maintaining their unique creative voice. This means we take the time to communicate with each writer and explain our editing decisions as a way of “coaching” them in their craft.

WHAT IS OUR ASK?

We’re looking for your support to fund the time we spend editing the contributions and producing the website and newsletter, as well as to cover the cost of the website (just $15/month). Thanks so much for your support as we create a space for emerging creatives!
