We're Ellis and Caz, on Saturday 20th September 2025, we found out the worst-possible news that any expecting parents could ever hear. Our daughter died at 37.5 weeks into what had been a very normal, low-drama pregnancy. We were both absolutely stunned and couldn't quite believe what we had heard.
The following days were a blur, resulting in the delivery of Connie on Tuesday 23rd September. She weighed 6lb 2oz, and we had to come to terms with the fact that this would be the first, and only, time we would get to spend with her.
We're extremely grateful to the team at the Jessop Wing for their incredible attentiveness, compassion, and professionalism in helping us through what has undoubtedly been the hardest time of our lives. Once Connie had arrived, we were moved into a special room which has a few more comforts in - specifically located away from other couples bringing their babies into the world, and spent the following day in there.
It only dawned on us after we looked back at our time in the hospital just how important that room was in helping us to come to terms with what had happened. We also found out that the entire room and all it's contents are sourced by donations and fund-raising.
So given that there's very little we can do about our situation, and our immense sense of duty to give back to the Jessop Wing for the kindness and care they showed us during our darkest moments, we want to help ensure this room is provided for, to be there for anyone who finds themselves in our unfortunate situation in the future.
Ellis is going to be running the Sheffield Half Marathon in March 2026, and asking everyone around us both to do one of 2 things:
1) Donate to this cause
2) Enter the run yourself, and raise as much as you can
We know a half marathon is relatively easy for some, and seemingly unconquerable for others - but by hook or crook, we will all cross that finishing line, however long it takes - safe in the knowledge that we will have all made a difference to people who need to see positivity while going through an unimaginable time.
If you've made it this far, thanks for taking the time to read about our experience. We hope that you will take the opportunity to help us.
