As a Conroe resident and taxpayer, I filed a Texas Public Information Act (TPIA) request because our city is installing Flock Safety AI surveillance cameras and spending millions in tax dollars with very little public oversight. I asked for the contracts and camera locations to understand how our privacy is being protected and how our money is being spent. Unfortunately, the City is trying to block this information by charging a significant 'labor fee' and filing a legal appeal to the Attorney General to delay or deny my request.

Getting these records is about more than just one person’s curiosity—it’s about bringing transparency to our local government. By raising these funds, we can force the City to release the documents, ensuring every citizen knows exactly what this surveillance system does and where the money went. The records will be shared directly with legal and advocacy teams at the Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF), Institute for Justice (IJ), Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas (FOIFT), Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), and Texas Civil Rights Project (TCRP). These organizations need these documents to conduct a formal audit of Conroe's surveillance and spending practices.

I am asking my neighbors and fellow taxpayers to join me in this fight for transparency. This isn’t just about me—it’s about our right to see how our tax dollars and AI surveillance are being handled in our town. My promise to you: I am setting a strict 8-day deadline for this. If we don’t reach the full amount shown on the City's receipt, I will manually refund every single donation and personally cover any additional transaction fees.
