Connor's Bar Mitzvah: Helping Dogs in Need

"Did you know that the name Connor means ‘dog lover?’ It’s almost as if my parents knew what my future would hold when they named me all those years ago, because I’ve grown into the biggest dog person you’ll ever meet!

Whether I’m playing with my own pup, volunteering, or just being around dogs, they always bring me happiness. As I turn thirteen and celebrate my Bar Mitzvah this fall, I’ve decided to dedicate my service project to helping dogs in need—because every dog deserves a chance at a better life.

For my project, I am raising money for Saving Grace, an amazing nonprofit organization that rescues dogs from shelters and provides them with essential medical care, food, and a safe place to stay until they find their forever homes. In addition to raising funds, I am also collecting food, toys, and other necessary supplies for the Wake County Animal Shelter, which takes in hundreds of animals each year and works hard to care for them until they are adopted.

I chose this cause because dogs have always been such an important part of my life. They bring so much joy but unfortunately, not all dogs are as lucky as mine. Many live in overcrowded shelters or face being euthanized due to a lack of resources. By supporting Saving Grace and the Wake County Animal Shelter, we can provide dogs in need with care, comfort, and the hope of finding a loving home.

My goal is by August, to raise $1,000 or more for Saving Grace, which will go directly toward medical treatments, food, and shelter care. I am also aiming to collect 100+ items for the Wake County Animal Shelter, including food, blankets, toys, and grooming supplies—everything that will make the dogs’ stay a little more comfortable.
