Connor Brown Scimitar Syndrome
Hi, we are Andrew and Tara Brown, and our son has scimitar syndrome… At the results from the 20week anatomy scan we found out there was an issue with our son’s heart. He was diagnosed with Coarctation of the aorta at about 22weeks, and that he would need heart surgery when born. At 38 weeks we went for a routine ultrasound to check on his growth and development and we had to be induced because he wasn’t growing anymore. He ended up born that night via c-section. Connor had his surgery the following morning, which itself was a great success, but they ran some test on his right lung which seemed to stay “collapsed”. Turned out his right lung is hypoplastic and they diagnosed Connor with scimitar syndrome. A rare lung/heart defect accompanied by hypo-plastic right lung…. Connor will be needing another surgery but this one is much more invasive and with higher risks….
We decided to start up this go fund me account based on our late night emergency visit with Connor July 14th. His breathing has gotten worse and his scimitar syndrome ends up being much worse then they thought! At first we had 12-18 months before he’d NEED his surgery but now we only have 2-3 months if that. The doctors at the Stollery are trying to find a way to give him more time and we will be back and forth from the hospital every week until Connor needs to be admitted due to the conditions of his health. We want to be able to spend as much time with him as possible, before it may be too late. But it’s tough trying to juggle all of this, with the frequent hospital visits, and my husband trying to go to work as well to pay the bills…
Connor is currently, very slowly dying and the doctors can’t intervene yet or he will NOT make it because he is too small, but they also can’t wait to long before the damage to his heart and lung cost him his life anyway. He needs all the time he can get. And so do we.
