Update:
Connie's (my mom) body has become resistant to the chemo and she does not have the markers for the newest chemo treatment. We have been told to make end of life plans and we have 6 to 12 months left. She is on a chemo of Doxil/Avastin to help with ascites symptoms and slow the progression of the cancer. She tolerates the chemo very well and we are hoping this will buy us a few more months with her.
Chemo is not cheap, and we need your help to keep it going. Please donate a little or share with everyone you know.
Thank you and God Bless!
What can I say about cancer that would truly matter in the end? That it sucks? That it’s heartbreaking? That it’s a thief without morals? A dark cloud on an otherwise sunny day?
I think we know that. My grandmothers diagnosis of metastatic ovarian/fallopian tube cancer stage 3c, grade 3 with Peritoneal Carcinomatosis is no different in the end.
But she is.
From as far back as I can recall my grandmother was a force. She wouldn’t agree, more than likely. She’d point out the rock bottom moments and years we were forced apart and say she could have done better. She has a knack for being a little too humble but she’s always said I have an uncanny ability to see people.
So let me tell you what I see in her.
Magic. Enough magic to fuel Disney if you asked my 4 year old son or his 7 year old cousin. To them she is granny; a mud pie connoisseur, a living adventure guide, a warm hug, and a source for unrelenting compassion and love. My grandmother is the kind of person who would quite literally break her back to help a stranger. She has a laugh you can’t miss, a smile that appears effortless, and talent for making anyone feel welcome.
When faced with the immoral thief, Cancer. She decided to fight and we decided to fight along with her. Because that’s what she’s always done for everyone else. She has no sword or shield or armor but she is battle worn and a hero nonetheless.
This is the part where you come in. Fighting isn’t cheap and health insurance isn’t always fair. Her deductible is set at 7,000 spanning over the next years worth of procedures, chemo and surgeries she needs. Gas to travel too and from the hospital, therapy treatments, not to mention the special cost of the meal plan the hospital has made for her. If you’re able to donate a dollar or five or ten or 20… I think you get where I’m going here... Any little bit helps. Please help my grandmother focus on the fight ahead rather than the bills that pave the way. She’s magic, I swear, and we’re not ready to give that up yet.
Thank you
