Connetting the Dots

Mi chiamo Riccardo, ho 32 anni, ed il 27 luglio 2025 parteciperò alla Transcontinental Race, una gara ciclistica di 4800km che attraversa l'Europa. Questa sfida rappresenta molto più di una semplice competizione sportiva: questa è la mia opportunità di fare la differenza.

L'obiettivo è quello di raccogliere 1€ per ogni chilometro che riuscirò a pedalare: 4800€. Il ricavato di questa raccolta fondi è finalizzato all'acquisto di una handbike per un amico ciclista che uno sfortunato incidente ha privato dell'uso delle gambe.

Il sogno è quello di riuscire a raccogliere 1€ per ogni metro di dislivello che riuscirò a superare: 55000€. Il capitale raccolto verrà devoluto alle associazioni sportive che si impegnano in progetti di sport e disabilità in Friuli Venezia-Giulia.

Ci tengo a precisare che la mia gara è interamente autofinanziata. Questa raccolta fondi è esclusivamente finalizzata alla beneficenza verso i soggetti e le associazioni citate.

Il titolo di questo progetto è Connecting the Dots.

Connettere i punti è un concetto che ricorre con diversi significati in questa raccolta fondi:

L'idea del progetto nasce proprio dalla volontà di ri-connettere qualcosa di spezzato. L'incidente che ha coinvolto Edoardo ha irreparabilmente danneggiato un'importante sezione del suo midollo spinale, provocandone la paralisi degli arti inferiori. Questa interruzione ha drammaticamente sconvolto la sua esistenza e violentemente interrotto l'importante legame che aveva con il ciclismo. La volontà di questo progetto è quella di costruire un collegamento alternativo e riunire i pezzi di una passione infranta.

Edoardo ha sempre rappresentato un punto di riferimento per la comunità di appassionati della bicicletta. La sua forza eccezionale e le sue vittorie epiche, lo hanno reso un capitano straordinario piuttosto che un outsider. La sua positività travolgente, la sua voglia di condividere insieme agli altri la gioia dei traguardi, hanno permesso ad un eterogeneo gruppo di ciclisti, di diventare un grande team di amici. A causa dell'incidente accorso, la comunità di appassionati ha perduto un componente fondamentale. Attraverso questo progetto, come una vera squadra di ciclisti in gara, possiamo riorganizzarci verso un medesimo obiettivo: aiutare a rientrare in gruppo un capitano che, a causa di una caduta, ha perso la testa della corsa. Insieme possiamo raggiungere il traguardo.

La Transcontinental Race, la sfida alla quale prenderò parte, è una competizione di ultra-ciclismo. Si basa sulla connessione di 5 checkpoint disposti lungo il percorso di gara, fra Santiago de Compostela (inizio della gara) e Costanta (fine della gara). Dalla Spagna alla Romania, durante i 18 giorni a bordo della bicicletta supererò montagne, confini, fiumi e ostacoli, in totale autonomia. La rotta, traccerà progressivamente una linea che connette fra loro gli estremi d'Europa. Questa lunga strada ininterrotta attraverso diverse regioni, rappresenterà la continuità generata dalle sfumature fra culture e popoli che rendono questo territorio un unico grande continente interconnesso. Ogni chilometro percorso, ogni metro di ascesa superato, sarà una piccola ma progressiva connessione fra il punto d'inizio e quello di fine.

Le fasi per la preparazione di questa sfida sono tante, molte di queste richiedono risorse e competenze delle quali non dispongo. Fortunatamente ho ricevuto il supporto di molte persone che, grazie ai loro preziosi talenti, mi stanno generosamente aiutando a superare tutti gli ostacoli organizzativi. La salda rete di contatti generata da amici e familiari, sta permettendo di realizzare un progetto decisamente più grande di me. Singolarmente tutte queste persone sono punti di riferimento slegati, ma coinvolti verso un unico scopo rappresentano un articolato e sinergico sistema.

My name is Riccardo, I'm 32 years old. On the 27th July 2025 I will participate at Transcontinental Race a 4800km cycling race that crosses Europe. This challenge represents much more than just a sporting competition: this is my opportunity to make a difference.

My goal is to collect €1 for every kilometer I manage to pedal: €4800. The proceeds from this fundraiser are aimed at purchasing a handbike for a cyclist friend who has lost the use of his legs due to an unfortunate accident.

My dream is to be able to collect €1 for every meter of altitude difference that I manage to overcome: €55,000. The capital raised will be donated to sports associations that are involved in sports and disability projects in Friuli Venezia-Giulia.

I would like to point out that my race is entirely self-financed. This fundraiser is exclusively aimed at charity towards the subjects and associations mentioned.

The title of this project is Connecting the Dots.

Connecting the dots is a concept that recurs with different meanings in this fundraiser:

The idea of ​​this project was born precisely from the desire to re-connect something broken. The accident involving my cyclist friend Edoardo irreparably broke an important section of his spinal cord, causing paralysis of his lower limbs. This interruption dramatically shattered his existence and violently severed the important bond he had with cycling. The aim of this project is to build an alternative connection and bring together the pieces of a broken passion.

Edoardo has always represented a point of reference for the community of cycling enthusiasts. His exceptional strength and epic victories made him an extraordinary captain rather than a mere outsider. His overwhelming positivity, his desire to share the joy of achieving goals together, made possible to turn a heterogeneous group of cyclists into a great team of friends. Due to that accident, this community of enthusiasts lost a fundamental component. Through this project, like a real team of competing cyclists, we can reorganize ourselves towards the same goal: to help a captain who has lost the lead in the race due to a fall, to get back into the group. Together we can reach the finish line.

The Transcontinental Race, the challenge I will take part in, is an ultra-cycling competition. It is based on the connection of 5 checkpoints located along the race route, between Santiago de Compostela (start of the race) and Costanta (end of the race). From Spain to Romania, during the 18 days on my bicycle I will overcome mountains, borders, rivers and obstacles, in total autonomy. My route will progressively trace a line that connects the extremes of Europe. This long uninterrupted road through different regions will represent the continuity generated by the nuances between cultures and peoples that make this territory a single large interconnected continent. Every kilometer travelled, every meter of ascent overcome, will be a small but progressive connection between the starting point and the ending point.

There are many phases to prepare for this challenge, many of which require resources and skills that I don't have. Fortunately I have received the support of many people who, thanks to their precious talents, are generously helping me overcome all organizational obstacles. The strong network of contacts generated by friends and my family is allowing me to carry out a project that is bigger than me. Individually, all these people are unrelated points of reference, but united by this common project they represent a complex and synergistic system.
