My name is Patty. I am the mother of Brittany and the grandma of little baby Conner who was born on March 1, 2016.
My daughter, Brittany, was diagnosed with high risk preeclampsia at 29 weeks and was admitted to the hospital where she stayed from February 19 until March 4 after Conner was born. Conner was born just shy of 31 weeks and will be in the neonatal intensive care unit for quite some time. He was born by emergency c-section at 12:31 on March 1 and weighed 2lbs 8 oz and was 14 inches long.
His first scan revealed he had a stage 4 hemorrage on his brain, which the doctors are saying is the worst bleed preemies can have but the bleeding has stopped and he isn't showing any signs of damage. This will be checked weekly to make sure there isn't any more bleeding and to see if the previous bleeding has been absorbed back into the body.
In addition to all Conner's medical complications, Brittany is on medical leave from her employer for 12 weeks without pay. Even when she is working she makes minimum wage and works unideal shifts for a new mother. My husband and I have tried to pick up the slack where we can and Brittany's older sister has also helped her every chance she gets.
Brittany is currently living with a roomate and Conner's father in not-so-great conditions. We have offered to take in Brittany and Conner, however, we only have 1 spare room and we also have dogs (and dander no matter how much and how often we clean) is not good for developing lungs.
The money raised will be used to set Brittany and Conner up in a 1-2 bedroom apartment and get her anything else he may need. It will also help pay for any medical expenses they will have following all the time spent in the hospital for Brittany and the NICU for Conner.
I just want to give my grandson the best chance at life and don't want him to have to struggle right off the bat. Childhood should be just that. Brittany deserves a chance to raise him the right way and not have to worry about the next utility bill that is due.
