Last night, a fire tore through Conley Bottom Marina on beautiful Lake Cumberland.  Conley Bottom is one of the most beloved destinations in KY.  This past winter the marina was bought by the Piercy family who has worked at the marina their entire lives.  They are very hard working and good people.  Fred Piercy took out an enormous loan to try to make this family dream come true, but last night that dream was shattered.  The enormous fire destroyed the Ship's store, the marina restaurant, the boat garage, and the workshop/tool room, and several marina owned boats.  In all, there is millions of dollars in damage.  Although the Piercy's have insurance on the property, it is going to come up several millions of dollars short of covering the losses.  This family has poured their heart, soul, and money into this facility and provided many, many vacationers and tourists with wonderful memories  and experiences over the years.  Without a little help, they may not survive this catastrophe.    Please help if you can.

Almost a week has passed since the awful fire and a ton of progress has been made. One of the existing gas docks was salvageable and was moved to the main marina walkway fifty yards from the parking lot. It was completely rewired and plumed and passed state inspection two days ago. A small shed was put on an available float and anchored next to the gas dock to serve as a temporary ship's store. An available rental houseboat was moved to the courtesy dock by the parking lot and is serving as a temporary office, employee break room, etc. The Conley Crew has been simply amazing. This weekend the campground was full, thousands of boats launched and used what is left of the marina, and there were virtually no real snags. Try getting that done in 4 days. They worked their collective butts off! Volunteers, customers, and even strangers have been wonderfully generous. Many great meals have been provided by people simply wanting to help folks in need. Thank you so much. There's still a mountain of work to do and it will be an uphill climb. The donations I have received so far will be mostly spent on tools to complete the work ahead. The entire tool building burned and with it, thousands of dollars worth of tools. Thanks to many of you, some of these necessary reconstruction tools will be replaced this coming week. There's a lot more to do though, and money problems will certainly mount for the Piercy and Denny families. If you can, please donate. Thanks so much, Phil Glass
