my story began at the end of 2022 when I had an infection that meant I was taken to A&E majors on Christmas Eve with sepsis. And for the following 2 years I battled with foot pain and problems that X-rays and MRI’s found highlighted during the sepsis. It’s been a very long and emotional and frustrating journey.
as a result on March 5th 2025 I had my left leg amputated below the knee. I opted for this operation as the pain in my feet was so bad and was never going to get better or cured. I’m also expecting to have my right leg amputated in a few months time as well.
I’ve appled to the BCP council for the Disabled Facilities Grant and I was told (having shown them one payslip from my husband and no other evidence of our circumstances) the numbers were put into a computer and the computer said “no”. I’m not working and only my husband is working. I have every reason to believe we are entitled to this help to adapt our home for me but the application was rejected. We have no savings and no other benefits (I’m awaiting a PIP decision.
I would really be grateful for help for us to be able to find a way to the first thing I need which is a concrete ramp outside the front door. I don’t know how much it costs but my goal starting amount is a wild guess.
your help is so invaluable and would mean so much. I’m terrified to apply anywhere else (I have no energy or motivation to face potential “no” s and I’m just hopeful we can do it ourselves. I have a wheelchair and a power chair that I need to be able to get up and down the ramp and possibly hand rails on either side.
please share this as much as you can
every little helps at this point.
