Mi nombre es Karla Sofía Guerra, hija de Alba Yolanda Guerra Zambrano, una mujer que ha enfrentado el cáncer con una fortaleza admirable desde el año 2016, cuando fue diagnosticada con cáncer de mama grado 3. Durante años recibió tratamiento oncológico en SOLCA, incluyendo quimioterapia con esquema TCH, radioterapia y trastuzumab, cumpliendo a cabalidad cada una de las fases del proceso.

En agosto de 2024, cuando acudimos a una evaluación médica de seguimiento, advertimos que mi madre presentaba una masa submandibular visible. Solicitamos que se le realizaran los exámenes correspondientes antes de otorgar el alta definitiva, sin embargo, esta solicitud fue ignorada. No se realizaron pruebas de imagen ni exámenes complementarios. A pesar de ello, le retiraron el catéter y le dieron el alta sin ningún tipo de control. El caso fue cerrado sin verificación, y durante todo este tiempo no hubo ningún tipo de seguimiento ni comunicación institucional sobre su evolución clínica.

En abril de 2025, la masa desapareció temporalmente luego de una biopsia, pero reapareció hace pocas semanas en una zona cercana a la parótida. El día 5 de agosto de 2025, se nos confirmó un nuevo diagnóstico: linfoma B difuso de células grandes de alto grado, con un índice Ki-67 entre 70% y 95%, lo que indica un comportamiento extremadamente agresivo y de rápida progresión. Adjunto a esta campaña el informe médico completo.

Este diagnóstico requiere tratamiento oncológico urgente, pero lamentablemente el sistema de salud pública (IESS) nos ha dado cita recién para el 4 de septiembre, una espera que podría tener consecuencias negativas dada la velocidad con la que avanza esta enfermedad.

Durante estos años, he estado a cargo del cuidado y acompañamiento integral de mi madre. Sin embargo, actualmente me encuentro sin empleo, lo cual ha limitado de forma crítica nuestra capacidad para acceder a una atención privada inmediata.

Por esta razón, recurro con humildad y con esperanza a ustedes. Necesitamos cubrir al menos la primera quimioterapia por la vía particular, mientras logramos acelerar el tratamiento en el sistema público. Cada día que pasa pone en riesgo su salud, y cada aporte por pequeño que sea suma esperanza y vida.

My name is Karla Sofía Guerra, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my mother, Alba Yolanda Guerra Zambrano. She is a cancer survivor who has been fighting bravely since 2016, when she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. She completed her full treatment at SOLCA (Ecuador’s national cancer institute), including TCH chemotherapy, radiation, and trastuzumab, following every step with discipline and strength.

In August 2024, during a routine visit, we raised concern about a noticeable lump under her jaw. We asked her doctors to run the necessary tests before considering her for discharge. Unfortunately, our concerns were dismissed. No scans or lab work were done, and despite the presence of a visible mass, her catheter was removed and she was discharged without any further evaluation. We were never informed of the pending immunohistochemistry results, and no follow-up was conducted.

In January 2025, the mass temporarily disappeared after a biopsy, but it reappeared three weeks ago, near the parotid region. On August 5, 2025, we received a heartbreaking diagnosis: high-grade diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, with a Ki-67 proliferation index between 70% and 95%, meaning this is a very aggressive and fast-growing cancer.

We are attaching the official diagnosis to this campaign.

This disease requires immediate treatment, but unfortunately, the public health system (IESS) has only offered us an oncology appointment for September 4 a delay that could cost us dearly given the speed at which this type of cancer advances.

I have been the sole caregiver and support for my mother throughout her battle. Right now, I am unemployed, and we simply cannot afford the cost of private treatment on our own.

That’s why I’m humbly asking for your help. We need to pay for at least the first chemotherapy session at a private clinic, while we continue to push for faster care through the public system. Every day counts. Every donation no matter how small will help buy us the time we need to fight this properly.
