Last November I was a guest lecturer in an undergraduate GIS class at Hue University of Sciences in Hue, Vietnam. The class instructor was teaching from GIS curriculum I published in English which he had translated into Vietnamese.
About a third of the students in the GIS class owned laptops; those without laptops huddled around the laptop owners and learned GIS as best they could just by watching.
The environmental science department did not have access to a computer lab.
The class instructor had an idea -- build a lab on wheels with shelves for 10 laptops. The mobile lab could be moved from classroom to classroom to give more students hands-on GIS experience. He had the mobile lab built locally. Here is the result shortly after it was delivered.
The task now is to fill the ten shelves of the mobile lab with laptop
computers. As of July, three laptops have been donated - most are old but still functional. BUT THERE ARE STILL EMPTY SHELVES.
One new, entry-level HP laptop with a licensed copy of Windows 10 can be purchased in Hue for $550. The challenge for this GoFundMe campaign is to buy two new laptops for the mobile lab - total cost = $1,100 US.
I'll be in Hue, Vietnam, next November and, with your donation help, I'll be able to purchase two new laptops to fill two more shelves in the mobile lab.
Your help will contribute immeasurably to the education of a future environmental scientist in Vietnam. Thank you.
