Computer and bill assistance for a cat-loving photographer

If you’ve attended many events in Wichita, chances are you’ve been photographed at some point by David Lee Quick. Dave is an artist and photographer from Wichita, Kansas.

He was raised in Wichita, then spent 25 years living in Philadelphia (with jaunts in New York, Detroit and Berkley, California) where he was artist-in-residence at the University of Pennsylvania, served on the National Ethics Committee of Artist’s Equity Association and received numerous awards for his painting.

After a career in pro-am bicycle racing, he became the official photographer for the United States Professional Bicycle Racing Organization and covered world and national championships during the cycling renaissance of the 1980’s.

In the early 1990’s, he returned to Wichita and continued to teach at the university level, organize major exhibits for others and create his own art.

Dave has spent a lifetime working for civil rights and equality for groups who have been marginalized in our society. Now, his photography reflects his desire to give everyone a voice, and he frequently focuses on people who others overlook. He photographs many events and supports local organizations by providing photographs without asking for money in return. Of course, his two cats, Frankie Blue Eyes and Little Lucky (pictured above) are frequent collaborators and subjects as well.

Those who work hard and focus on gaining wealth for themselves usually do pretty well later in life. Those who work hard all their life but focus on being generous with their time and money can have a harder time. Dave has always been thrifty and wise with his money but is now having some difficulty making ends meet on a fixed income.

Until recently, he has been editing and sharing his photography using a laptop from 2008. It recently bit the dust and he doesn’t have the means to replace it, so I’d like to raise some funds to get him a new (or quality used) computer so he can continue his work. The computer prompted me to start this fundraiser, but I’d love to see enough come in to help with medical bills and taxes to help put his mind at ease.

I know Dave would never feel comfortable asking people to give to him, but imagine what it would be like not to have the means to fulfill your passion? I wanted to reach out on his behalf to solve this problem.

Thank you!
