Composing in the Wilderness 2024

Who this will help

Hi everyone! My name is Charlotte Leamon and I am a Sydney based composer and sound artist. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Music (Composition) and I am completing my Honours thesis in 2024. I teach piano, conduct a community choir and my main passion is to write music about important issues such as the environment!

Why I'm fundraising

I have been offered a place in the 'Composing in the Wilderness' program for July 2024, and I am asking you please to help support this experience. This is a once in a lifetime experience, and it is highly competitive. I was selected amongst applicants from all over the world, including professors and graduate students at top institutions, as well as freelance composers of many types. I am one of only eight composers invited to participate in the Denali trip, which takes composers into the backcountry of Denali National Park and culminates in a live performance in Fairbanks, Alaska.

After trekking, adventuring and hiking in the Denali Park for four days we will then compose a piece for the next three days. The inspiration from the park will fuel a composition of mine which will have a world premiere in Fairbanks.

The impact of your support

The funds will help assist with the following: flights, accomodation, guides and scientists, gear and clothing, food and water. The trip will take place from July the 16th-July 29th. Your support would mean so much to me and it would enable me to partake in this incredible opportunity.
