Completion Funds for Matriarch

Hi!

 

It's me, Donald Conley, possibly your favorite filmmaker from Chicago, but most certainly your brother in creative spirit.

I'm completing my latest short documentary called Matriarch. The film honors my two grandmothers as they reflect on the meaning of motherhood in the middle of the pandemic. The film observes the challenges that come with age as well as the perennial resolve of mothers looking to serve when they are in need of care.

 

I am in Post-Production, which can be the most expensive phase of making a documentary. To be frank, I need help. I need assistance with paying for the sound design, musical compositions, color correction and some archival licensing. Matriarch has been primarily self-funded.

 

Your contributions would allow me to share this celebration of elderly motherhood with a wide audience via film festivals and streaming services. This project is mean't to highlight the concerns of, and the value of Black elderly mothers. I am also seeking to combat individualism and bridge generational gaps that exist in western society.

SOME NOTES ABOUT ME...

 

I am a producer of scripted & unscripted media whose work revolves around themes of innocence lost, rehabilitation and ties that bind. My last short film was a top-5 finalist at the American Black Film Festival and secured distribution through HBO.

 

In 2019, I produced Racquet Shorts, a series of four mini documentaries based on articles published by Racquet Magazine.  I am also the Producer of Change the Name, a short documentary that premiered on BET Networks on Juneteenth '21.
