Musical production on the life of Joseph Smith

Hi, my name is Gunnar Michael Andersen!

For many years I felt the passions that enveloped Joseph Smith’s life needed to be conveyed through music; that words alone, while often beautiful, lacked music’s ability to connect directly with the soul. In other words, I felt that Joseph’s life needed to exist as a musical theater piece. Some years ago, this desire gave birth to the musical: BROTHER JOSEPH.

I have worked on BROTHER JOSEPH almost every day since the spring of 2016. 21 of the 29 songs in the show have been written, although production is complete on just a handful of them.

Today, we are working to produce and publish all the music in a concept album. My wife and I have directed an enormous amount of our financial resources toward this effort but have reached the point where it is time to invite others to help us bring this vision to the world.

With a lot of help from you and the Lord, and with many prayers and a little luck, it is our goal to see the concept album completed -- and then generate enough revenue to fund a stage production of the show.

Through experiencing this show, I pray that many people will have their testimonies of the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ strengthened while others will come to know Joseph Smith for the first time. I hope everyone who sees the show and hears the music will feel the powerful testimonies of the early believers and the fears and passions of the anti-believers. I believe there is a message in Joseph’s story that transcends time, place and religion. We could all stand to be a little less fearful, a little more tolerant and a whole lot more loving to those we don’t fully know or understand.
