Complete Healing for Steve & Connie

Donation protected
Hi Everyone -

Our parents, Steve and Connie, had an unfortunate, traumatic accident Saturday, March 6th. As most of you know, a favorite activity for these two "lovebirds" was to take Jeep rides at sunset in Steve's classic 1949 Willys. They have been doing this for years. Last Saturday, while on their Jeep ride through the Texas Hill Country, a driver rear ended them at a very high speed on a 30mph road, Rebecca Creek. Their Jeep flipped and landed on the roof, with Connie being ejected from the car, and Steve remaining trapped in the Jeep. The other car was found approximately 0.6 miles away from the impact in the riverbed.

Steve and Connie were airlifted to University Medical in San Antonio, TX, the trauma center which serves this region. Steve sustained a broken ankle, broken pelvis, body trauma and multiple facial fractures. Connie has a lacerated knee, a broken clavicle and she unfortunately lost her left hand as a result of the accident.

These injuries have and will require multiple surgeries. As of this writing both Steve and Connie are still in the hospital, in ICU and Acute care, and Steve has remained intubated since the accident. Their children - Jessica, Michael and Kellye - have been with them throughout this healing process.

They are both working hard to heal, and the caregivers and medical professionals at the Trauma Center have been tremendous!

Both of them will need extensive rehab, and Connie, a proud "lefty" her entire life ("We're the only ones in our right mind!"), will need to relearn the world as a right-handed person.

Given the status of the other driver, and a lack of uninsured motorist coverage, we expect Steve and Connie will incur significant medical costs they will need to cover on their own. The investigation is ongoing, and we are looking forward to learning more from crash experts and the police.

The earliest estimates we have are assuming $16,000 each ($32,000 total) which is the best estimate we could figure at the moment. Really anything will help, and this is an opportunity to support the long journey ahead.

As is GoFundMe protocol I need to share I am Connie's daughter, Kellye Rogers, and Steve's stepdaughter, who has agreed to do this with my brother Michael and my sister Jess.

All of these funds raised will only be for the benefit of Steve and Connie, in support of their medical expenses, recovery, healing and necessary adjustments to life given these new circumstances. I have provided GoFundMe information regarding my identity, their bank account and all information requested to prove that this is not a scam or fraud campaign.

Jess will be staying at Steve and Connie's home. Michael, my fiancée Claire and I will be temporarily relocating to the area for a few months from SF/NYC, so we can be here whenever and however we are needed.

We plan on also using this GoFundMe as one of the main ways of communicating progress - so if you are able to donate, please include your email address so you can receive updates as we receive them.

$1, $5, $20, $100, $1000 - any donation will 100% go to their care.

Thank you for the huge outpouring of love and support! Let's get these two back on their feet, two-steppin' and and watching sunsets in the Texas Hill Country!
