Representing GB at the Underwater Hockey World Championships
Donation protected
Hey! I’m Harriet and for 8 years I have been playing the crazy sport of Underwater Hockey (also known as Octopush), for my local team: Team South West and also the local ladies' division: South West Ladies. People often think that I am joking when I tell them about my Octopush escapades, but this sport has been around since 1954.
Underwater Hockey is played on the bottom of a 2-3m deep pool, in a 6 versus 6 formation. A weighted puck is passed, flicked and swam across the bottom of a pool into a goal at each end. What makes Underwater Hockey the ultimate team sport is the fact that no individual player can try and play the game on their own, as they will quickly run out of air and this creates a strong bond between and reliance on your teammates.
After years of training and trialling (a large part of which was hindered by the COVID pandemic), I am proud to say that I have been selected for the Great Britain Under 19 Women’s Squad and fly out to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for the World Championships on the 14th July this summer. While I am thrilled to be representing my country at an international level, the overall cost of the experience and all of my kit is just out of reach of my budget. Over last summer, I saved up a good proportion of my wages in anticipation of this, but any contributions to help me on this journey would be greatly appreciated.
Even a small donation can help contribute to the various aspects of the world Championships, from snorkels to swimsuits, fins to flights, anything to help me achieve my dream of representing GB.
Thank you,
Harriet :)
