Compassion for Dijon: Replace Her Stolen Rings
Donation protected
Hi, I am Lisa Evans, and I am raising funds to replace a cherished bridal ring set that was stolen from my best friend, Dijon Evans, today by a couple that preyed on her disability and vulnerability.
When Dijon was just 16 years old, she had a cast put on her leg too tightly that has caused a lifetime of complex medical issues. Gangrene infection set in her left leg and it was eventually amputated. She has had more than 200 surgeries as a result and the infection in her body triggered a condition called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). CRPS is often described as the "most painful medical condition known to humans". Today Dijon is constrained to a wheelchair and has frequent pain flare-ups that can confine her to bed for days or weeks at a time.
Today (May 4, 2025), she was outside in her front yard admiring and tending to her prized garden when a car with a man, woman, and child pulled up. The woman got out and asked Dijon for directions back to the freeway as they were lost. Of course, Dijon graciously provided detailed instructions. When she'd finished, the woman reached out to shake Dijon's hand to thank her. When Dijon extended her hand in return, THE WOMAN GRABBED DIJON'S HAND AND FORCEFULLY REMOVED HER RINGS FROM HER FINGER!! The woman quickly ran back to the vehicle, and they sped off. Dijon was unable to defend herself, pursue the woman, or get help quickly as she had to roll up a ramp to get James from inside their home.
James gave this bridal set to Dijon 2 years ago as a symbol of their love and commitment to each other. If you know Dijon, you likely know she loves gemstones and jewelry, almost as much as she loves James. This bridal set is truly one of her prized possessions! While it cannot be replaced with its original character and sentiment, it can be lovingly replaced with a new set if we, her friends, can graciously gift them the money to replace the set.
Dijon has filed a police report. However, she was unable to get a license plate or a good description of the woman as her face was partially covered. The rings are not insured, and they most certainly will not be able to replace the set on their fixed income. We will search for the ring at local pawnshops. However, it is exceptionally unlikely that it will ever be returned. I have used the original receipts to estimate the replacement cost at $5k.
THANK YOU so much for your gift to Dijon and James. If you have any questions, please reach out to me via GoFundMe.
5/6/25 UPDATE: The police are continuing to search for the couple; apparently there has been a rash of these types of theft along the West coast. I wanted to assure everyone donating, that if the rings are found (unlikely, but we can hope), then all donations will be refunded.
5/7/25: Marcus Smith of the Sacramento Bee interviewed Dijon and an article was included in today's newspaper: https://www.sacbee.com/news/local/article305777271.html
5/09/25: Dijon was interviewed by Kimberly Cruz and her story was on the Fox40 10pm news today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVhGDSOdyKQ
6/24/25 UPDATE
I wanted to post an update to Dijon's wedding ring theft and make a final plea for donations to replace her rings. Many of you indicated that you were waiting to see if the rings were returned or if victims services would help with the cost - both of those avenues are now closed and we need to raise another $2k to replace the set.
Please, please share and give a donation of any amount if you can. Thanks so much!
