CompAnimals Pet Rescue Needs a New Home

Donation protected

"It's meant to be!"

Like the animals we care for, we are looking to all the nice humans out there for a leg up and a chance to succeed. We need your help to purchase a sanctuary and adoption facility for our non-profit animal rescue organization. Our landlord posted a sign and gave us notice he is seeking a 10-15 year tenant. Once he gets under contract with his new tenant, then we will have to vacate in 90 days.

We are urgently looking for a new location for the dozens of animals for whom we care and adopt out. We were relieved to find a property just down the road that is absolutely MEANT TO BE for dogs, cats AND humans to live long and prosper. But we need YOU to make this dream a reality! Any amount -- $5, $10, $20, $50, $100 -- helps us reach our goal of saving more lives in a peaceful, restorative setting.

Who Are We?

CompAnimals Pet Rescue is a dynamic group of volunteers dedicated to the well-being of companion animals. We are entering our 20th year as an all-volunteer animal rescue in Pennsylvania. In that time, we have saved the lives of more than 2,000 dogs, cats and critters!

100% fueled and financed by passionate volunteers, our mission is "to take in unwanted, abandoned or abused dogs, cats and other small pets; to place those we can in loving, permanent homes; and to provide a sanctuary for the animals whose age, health issues or temperament precludes them from adoption." Sounds good, right?

Why Are We Asking for Your Help NOW?

In late 2018, CompAnimals was notified by our landlord to start looking for new space, as he plans to seek a 10-15 lease agreement for the property where we care for most of our adoptable dogs, cats and critters. Winter is upon us and we realize more than ever that we need to go! But where to? The clock’s ticking to get the animals out with no answer in sight!

...and then we find the perfect place one mile down the road!

A Legacy of Dogs

We discovered a 'diamond in the rough' property  on the market for $475,000 -- the going rate for 11.9 acres of decent land, let alone buildings suited for animals, in our neck of the woods. The previous occupant was a strong old woman who passed away at age 97. She dedicated her life to breeding, raising and training German Shepherds, so the property is literally made for dogs.

The listing has been on the market over a year at $475,000;  it's a mess but has good bones! More importantly, it is essentially move-in ready for the animals. It has private kennels with access to outdoor yards. It has a creek, pond, fields and shaded areas (many of them fenced) to provide a true sanctuary to dogs who need to stay a while, or for life. It has a big training room - several of our volunteers are trainers and would love to volunteer their expertise to new adopters! The list goes on and on, but the feeling it that it's meant to be!

It's also made for OUR organization! It's just a mile down the road from our current facility in Landenberg, PA, where, two decades ago, another strong woman named Leslie Hunt built up a successful rescue, always putting the animals’ needs ahead of hers, making the shoestring operation work.

Leslie has a special niche and reputation for matchmaking - spending time getting to know the animal, also spending time with applicants to establish realistic expectations and set the adoption up for happily-ever-after love stories (over 2,000 of them and counting!).  While we handle a variety of pets, young and old, we are known for taking on special cases that others won’t or can’t, such as older dogs, misunderstood dogs and animals needing veterinary attention.  We are a "no-kill" rescue and we leave no animal behind.

Any contribution amount helps us reach our goal!  With 100,000 contributions at the $5 level, CompAnimals can buy this property:

There's SO much to say about this property we want to move to, 1 mile down the road from where CompAnimals Pet Rescue is now. Pick YOUR favorite reason:
- plenty of indoor and outdoor spaces for interested adopters to visit
- large training room and large training field - certified trainers would love to educate our adopters and offer public seminars
- efficient setup for volunteers to clean-up and access animals
- multiple safe, fenced-in areas with sun and shade for dogs to enjoy the lovely property
- quality living spaces for individual dogs, with privacy and option to go outside in the fresh air
- pond, creek, trails for walking dogs and hosting walk/run events
