Community Voice for Public Lands

Across Adelaide, more people are beginning to feel concerned about how major decisions involving public land, green spaces and heritage areas are being made.

Too often, communities only become fully aware once projects are already approved, fences are up and works are underway. By that point, many people are left feeling powerless, disconnected and unsure how to meaningfully contribute.

There are also growing concerns around secrecy and lack of transparency surrounding how public money is being spent on projects affecting shared public land. Many people feel that communities deserve clearer disclosure, earlier communication and greater accountability when taxpayer-funded decisions carry significant environmental and social impact.

This fundraiser has been created to support constructive, community-led efforts focused on public awareness, transparency, community coordination, environmental and heritage advocacy, and stronger public involvement in decisions affecting shared spaces.

Funds raised may assist with educational and awareness campaigns, community meetings and forums, legal or professional consultation, campaign materials and media outreach, petition promotion and coordination, and building longer-term grassroots initiatives around stewardship of public land.

This is not about hostility or division.

This is about creating meaningful long-term change, rather than communities constantly being left to fight fires only after major decisions have already been made.

It’s about helping communities feel informed, connected and empowered to participate in conversations that shape the future of our shared public spaces.

Recent events surrounding Possum Park and other green spaces across Adelaide have highlighted growing concerns around transparency, accountability and meaningful public consultation before irreversible decisions are made.

Every contribution — whether through donating, sharing, volunteering or participating in constructive dialogue — helps strengthen community awareness, coordination and collective voice moving forward.

Public land belongs to the people, and communities deserve genuine involvement in decisions that shape the future of the places we all share.

Thank you to everyone contributing their energy, care and support.
