Share the Love...of Tennis

Donation protected
"Share the Love...of Tennis" is the concept at the heart of the non-profit organization, James Lewis Tennis Scholarship Foundation, Inc. (JLTSFI) which was started by James "Buddy" Lewis.  You may go to http://www.jltsfi.com/profile.asp for more information.

"Buddy" Lewis is a native of Dallas County Alabama who is a self-taught tennis player. From a very young age, "Buddy"Lewis became consumed with a passion for the game and also a passion to pass it on. He volunteered countless hours to teach tennis free of charge, provided transportation, and gave financially to many young players who wanted to learn to play. It was this exceptional dedication that earned "Buddy"Lewis several community service awards--one included being the first African American to be inducted into the Alabama Tennis Hall of Fame in 1996.

Mr. Lewis' legacy and love for the sport of tennis lives on through JLTSFI.  The foundation has impacted more than 1,000 youth, ages 5 - 18. Tennis programs are offered at two locations in Birmingham, Alabama--James Lewis Tennis Center and George Ward Tennis Center. Both centers are in majority African-American communities with a growing Hispanic population.

OUR WISH IS:
--to continue to offer youth and adult tennis lessons
--to provide tennis rackets, balls, and other tennis gear
--to start an educational component, A.C.E. Curriculumn (Academic, Creative, Engagement) which is designed to improve kids’ attitudes and behaviors around math, literacy and school climate; this will be held throughout the year and during school breaks and the summer
--to continue to provide funds for students to participate in tennis tournaments, to take advantage of private lessons, and to attend college
--to better reach out to the surrounding Hispanic communities
--to put on competitive community tournaments
--to attract and retain professional tennis coaches
--to attract and train Hispanic tennis coaches
--to provide training for current/future tennis coaches
--to upgrade tennis courts
--to build an indoor tennis facility
--to provide opportunities for the youth to go and see professional tennis players in action in professional tournaments
