TreeFrog Daycare needs help urgently!
We experienced a flood overnight that spread water throughout the bathroom and front portion of the building for the staff to discover upon arrival on Tuesday, January 20th. In addition to the resulting damage to building and floors, it has brought to light the need to replace much of the plumbing in the building, which will mean either an insurance claim with a high deductible for us to cover, or paying to fix this ourselves once we know the full extent of the situation. We have started to remediate, and have a company coming this afternoon to assess the damage, but it is already clear that this is a challenge for which we will require support!
The past few years have been tough ones for our beloved daycare, as we fought our way back from a 6 month closure due to the staffing/ housing crisis on the island, damage from a washing machine malfunction, a hot water tank replacement, and most recently the cost of over-staffing while we awaited a License amendment which allowed us to restructure our programs in a way that better supports our community- only to find ourselves with a flood on the day we officially welcome children into our new Multi-Aged program for the first time!
The reality of our situation is simply that we have been slowly recovering from our closure, only to be met with more financial challenges before we can rebuild our safety net. "The Frog" continues to offer the high-quality programs so many families have known and loved over the past 32 years, but our building is aging, much of it is still original, and repairs must be made in order to protect us from future issues like this one. We cannot do it alone.
Please consider supporting us in not only this repair, but the ongoing success of our centre. Saltspring needs childcare, and we are proud of what we are able to provide- please donate if you are able and help spread the word by sharing this appeal.
This situation does have the potential to interrupt operations depending on how this afternoon goes with the remediation company. As a result, we are feeling a sense of urgency, as the sooner we have the funds and support to fix this, the better we can minimize the impact of this event on the children, families and staff.
We will keep you updated on this situation as it unfolds, but would also love to hear from any community members who may consider offering their relevant skills for in-kind, tax receipted support.
Thank you-
from the Board, staff, children and families of our daycare
