Chances are, you know Salvador Flores.

He is the master rock mason responsible for many a stone wall, staircase, fireplace, fountain, and gate from Brookings to Port Orford over the last 3 decades.

A true artisan, having learned from his father from the age of 10 years old, Salvador hand-picks every rock from the Chetco and Rogue rivers and lays them carefully into place like a painter paints a landscape portrait.

If you do know Salvador, you also know what a kind and good and hard-working man he is, a devoted husband now widowed and loving father, with a deep spirit and strong faith.

Last month, Salvador suffered a stroke while at home with his daughter and was taken to Gold Beach Curry General. He made it through what was a touch and go experience. A huge thank you to the amazing nurses and doctors! He has now been transferred to an Acute Rehab Center where he is working hard to relearn some of the motor coordination and cognitive skills that he lost.

His ability to speak is a blessing to his family and friends, and his strong-willed and positive attitude helps his healing journey. He truly is a man of faith. The prognosis is good, but it will take some time to restore the full use of his right arm and leg and make a full recovery. The family holds steadfast to hope that he can fully return to the life he has lived with such joy, strength, and dedication.

We, his family and friends, wanted to inform the wider community here on the coast, as Salvador is so well-known. If you know Salvador and are in a position to give at this time, it would help tremendously with monthly bills. The family appreciates all the prayers that have been given through this tumultuous time. It means so much to him to be acknowledged and supported by his community while he fights to get back to the work that sustains him.
