Hello everyone. I wanted to provide an update. With the family's permission, I am heartbroken to share that Marc passed away on Sunday evening, following his battle with cancer.
The staff at the Arthur Child Calgary Cancer Center did everything that they could for him but unfortunately the treatments were not effective and the pneumonitis in his lungs proved to be problematic.
There will be a celebration of life in April.
Please continue to share this initiative as these funds will be critical for Jenn as she tries to navigate the coming weeks and months. We so appreciate your kindness and generosity. This has all unfolded incredibly quickly and we all share in the family's grief. If you have any questions or would like to assist in any way please reach out.

Hello Fellow Calgarians,
I am writing today on behalf of Jenn and Marc Lagace. Jenn and Marc live in NE Calgary with their 6 beautiful children, ranging in age from 5 to 17.
In early 2024 Jenn and Marc had a cancer scare. Marc was diagnosed with melanoma that had spread to the nearby lymph nodes. He had surgery and they thought that they were in the clear. Marc was able to keep working and aside from being tired, felt ok.
Late in 2024, they had a biopsy to see if they had gotten all of the cancer. In January 2025 they found out that the cancer had spread, and that Marc was now Stage 4. The cancer has spread to his lungs, liver and more lymph nodes.
This type of cancer does not respond to chemo and as such they are using immunotherapy to fight the disease.
Unfortunately, the immunotherapy has triggered pneumonitis in Marc's lungs and his reaction is so adverse that he has been hospitalized and is on 5L of oxygen. This extreme reaction and the need for steroids to support his breathing has meant that they have had to stop that cancer treatment until he stabilizes. This means that the aggressive cancer is spreading again. Marc is in terrible pain and remains on significant supportive oxygen. The doctors have now told Jenn that immunotherapy will also now no longer be possible.
The doctors have increased his steroids and will be starting a new treatment called Donor Antibody treatment. This will hopefully boost his antibodies, much like the immunotherapy, but with less side effects.
Things are moving incredibly quickly for Marc and Jenn. We need your help.
Marc and Jenn are a single income household, and Marc obviously cannot work while in the hospital. Jenn and Marc will be applying for government aide, but this can take time.
Jenn is at home with 6 kids and her husband in the hospital. One of their children is celebrating his birthday this coming week, but the celebration will be muted as their dad is in the hospital.
I am hoping that we as a community can rally around them to help provide some financial relief and assistance with bills. Jenn has so much to worry about right now. I want to try and remove financial worry from her plate for as long as possible.
Jenn serves and has served on multiple school council executives in NE Calgary. She goes on field trips with her kids and bends over backwards for her community. When she is not with her kids, she volunteers and is investing in her community. It's time for us to show up for her.
Times are tough for so many people right now with high prices and job loss. But if we each contribute a little bit, it will add up quickly.
Please share this initiative and give if you can. Your prayers are also very much welcome and appreciated.
With Appreciation,
Laurel
